"Art is a very powerful medium, so powerful, in fact, that it can release endorphins and actually change brain waves. This impressive effect on viewers is often a consideration as I paint. My intent is to draw the viewer in, through the use of light, color, and movement. Kandinsky believed that “color is a power which directly influences the soul." For this reason, I choose compelling color palettes, often adding motion and light to create interest and inspiration. When I begin a piece, I usually have a broad concept in mind, but allow myself to be open to adjusting it as I paint, letting each canvas and experience determine the outcome. My art is inspired by my travels, dreams, and relevant social issues. Spending summers appreciating the beauty of the Pacific and traveling to Portugal's tremendous Nazaré waves, particularly motivates me to capture the power and majesty of the ocean, with its symbolism as an agent of cleansing and renewal."
